On Teheran
What always strikes me about pictures like the ones coming from Iran, when you see a young woman or man facing with bare hands and eyes the anonymous violence of paid soldiers, when you see that, I can't help asking myself whether I would have the courage to do that. Risking your life and physical pain (we are all afraid of physical pain) for freedom, whatever it is that they call by this name.
Is it because you have to lose freedom to recognise its value? What is courage, if not conscience of what is important in life, without which you wouldn't even consider worth living? But still after that conscience, it takes a little step to decide to actually do it, jump the crevasse, and face whatever you find on the other side.
Still my mind cannot really understand, it wanders a bit helpless trying to grasp it, what is it that makes hundreds, thousands young people (young!) risk their lives?
What is it? Have I lost it already?
